Beds, shrubs & mulch Planting & landscape beds.

The beds frame the lawn. We plant, edge, mulch and maintain them so the whole property looks finished, from the foundation plantings to the mailbox.

Bed care includes.

Choose a one-time refresh or have us keep the beds sharp all season alongside the lawn.

  1. 01

    Spring bed cleanup

Leaves and debris out, perennials cut back, and winter damage pruned off.

  2. 02

    Spade-cut edges

A clean, crisp edge between bed and lawn that keeps grass out and mulch in.

  3. 03

    Fresh mulch

Two to three inches, kept back from stems and trunks. No mulch volcanoes around trees.

  4. 04

    Pruning

Shrubs and hedges shaped at the right time for each plant, so you don’t cut off next year’s flowers.

  5. 05

    Planting

Perennials, shrubs and small trees chosen for the light, soil and how much care you want to give them.

  6. 06

    Seasonal color

Annuals for entries, containers and signage beds, changed out as the season turns.

  7. 07

    Weeding visits

Regular weeding through the season so beds never get away from you.

Plant selection

Right plant, right place.

Most bed problems start with a plant in the wrong spot: a sun-lover planted in shade, or a delicate perennial along a driveway that gets salted all winter.

We plant for zone 5 winters, heavy clay soil and the way each corner of the property actually gets used. A few dependable starting points:

Full sun
Ninebark, spirea, coneflower, little bluestem
Part shade
Hydrangea, hosta, astilbe, ferns
Along drives & walks
Salt-tolerant juniper, daylily, switchgrass
Foundations
Boxwood, yew, dwarf lilac

Refresh, or keep it up?

Some properties need a one-time reset. Others want beds that look the same in August as they did in May.

One-time refresh Spring or fall

A single visit to clean out, edge, prune and mulch. Ideal before selling, hosting or handing the beds back to you.

  • Full cleanout and edging
  • Fresh mulch throughout
  • Pruning of overgrown shrubs

Season-long bed care April through October

Regular visits added to your lawn schedule: weeding, deadheading, edging touch-ups and pruning as plants need it.

  • Beds stay clean all season
  • Seasonal color changes
  • One crew, one invoice with mowing

Bed care questions.

How often should mulch be replaced?

Top it up by about an inch every year to restore color and coverage. A full refresh every two to three years keeps it from building up too deep.

When is the best time to plant?

Spring and early fall. Cooler temperatures and steadier rain give roots time to establish before summer heat or winter freeze.

Do you guarantee plants?

Plants we install are covered for their first growing season, provided they’re watered as directed. We’ll leave a simple watering plan with every planting.

Do you build patios and retaining walls?

We focus on planting and bed care. For patios, walls and major regrading, we’re glad to recommend a hardscape contractor we trust.
